Who makes the dampeners and valves PCT supplies?

PCT supplies Griffco, a US manufacturer of pulsation dampeners, pressure relief valves and back pressure valves. Griffco builds standard units to 1,250 PSIG design pressure and custom units for higher pressures.

What does a pulsation dampener do?

A pulsation dampener absorbs the pressure spikes created each time a reciprocating pump strokes. A gas charged bladder or diaphragm takes up the surge, so flow downstream is smoother, pipes vibrate less and gauges and flow meters read correctly.

Dampeners are available in PVC, 316 stainless steel, Alloy 20, Hastelloy C and other materials to match the chemical. Griffco also makes a patented Fusion Dampener that combines a back pressure valve and a pulsation dampener in one unit, and AOD dampeners sized for air operated diaphragm pumps (see AOD pulsation dampeners).

Which dampener and valve types are available?

Griffco offers fixed, adjustable, automatic and chargeable dampener designs, plus valves that protect the pump and steady the discharge pressure.

ProductWhat it does
Alloy and non metallic pulsation dampenersSmooth discharge flow from diaphragm, piston and plunger pumps
Adjustable, automatic and chargeable dampenersMatch the charge pressure to the system as conditions change
Sanitary CIP Series dampeners30 Ra surface finish with EPDM and silicone bladders for food and pharmaceutical lines
Pressure relief valvesProtect the pump and piping from over pressure
Back pressure valvesHold a steady discharge pressure so metering pumps dose accurately

Frequently asked questions

What pressure can a Griffco dampener handle?

Standard Griffco dampeners are designed to 1,250 PSIG, and custom units are available for higher pressures.

Where should a pulsation dampener be installed?

As close to the pump discharge as practical, before any long runs of pipe or instruments. Our installation guide shows typical layouts.

What is a back pressure valve for?

It holds a minimum pressure on the pump discharge so a metering pump does not siphon or overfeed when the system pressure is low.

Are sanitary dampeners available?

Yes. Griffco CIP Series dampeners have a 30 Ra surface finish with EPDM and silicone bladder options.
