What types of pumps does PCT supply?

The right pump depends on the fluid, the duty and how much leakage your plant can tolerate. This table shows each pump type PCT supplies, what it is best at and which manufacturer we usually start with.

Pump typeBest forManufacturers
Canned motor (sealless)Toxic, flammable or hazardous fluids where a leak is not acceptable; cryogenic and high temperature serviceTeikoku Chempump
Air operated diaphragmTransfer of abrasive, viscous or shear sensitive fluids; FDA compliant and ultra high purity versions; powder pumpsYamada
Alloy gear and centrifugalProcess and metering service with mechanically sealed or mag drive designsECO, Eastern and Isochem
Mag drive gearLow flow, high pressure duty in metallic or non metallic construction, including drum pumpsEclipse
High pressure gear and melt pumpsHigh pressure, high temperature and high viscosity polymers and extrusion linesMAAG
Centrifugal and Procav drum pumpsIndustrial and sanitary drum transfer with viscosity handling to 100,000 cPFLUX
Side channelLiquefied gas, refrigerant and boiler feed duty with low NPSHr at low to moderate flows and high pressuresSERO
Sanitary rotary lobe and centrifugalFood, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical processing built to 3A, FDA, USDA and EHEDG standardsAPV

How do you choose the right process pump?

Start with the fluid and the duty point, then narrow by sealing method and materials. Five facts decide most pump selections, and PCT asks for the same five on every quote.

  1. Fluid: chemical name, concentration, solids, specific gravity and viscosity at pumping temperature.
  2. Flow and head: the flow rate you need and the total head or discharge pressure the pump must overcome.
  3. Suction conditions: the NPSH available, which decides whether a standard pump will cavitate (see our NPSH guide).
  4. Leak tolerance: whether a mechanical seal is acceptable or the service calls for a sealless canned motor or mag drive pump.
  5. Materials and standards: wetted materials, motor classification and any ANSI, API or sanitary standard the pump must meet.

When is a sealless pump worth it?

A sealless canned motor or mag drive pump is worth it when a leak would be dangerous, expensive or reportable. Removing the mechanical seal removes the most common failure point and the main path for fugitive emissions, which lowers maintenance and risk over the life of the pump.

Teikoku canned motor pumps are a common choice for toxic, flammable and hazardous chemicals, including ANSI dimension LE and LE-X Series models that fit existing ANSI piping. For lower flows and higher pressures, Eclipse and ECO mag drive gear pumps give a sealless option. Read canned motor vs sealed pumps for a full comparison.

Frequently asked questions

What pump brands does PCT sell?

PCT represents Teikoku Chempump, Yamada, ECO, Eastern, Isochem, Eclipse, MAAG, FLUX, SERO and APV for process pumps, plus Pulsafeeder and Pulsatron for metering pumps.

Does PCT sell pumps outside Delaware?

Yes. PCT is based in Wilmington, Delaware and supplies customers across the United States.

What information do I need for a pump quote?

Send the fluid, flow rate, operating temperature, discharge pressure and specific gravity. Motor requirements and suction conditions help too. Use the quote form or call 302-655-3490.

Can PCT replace an existing pump with a different brand?

Often, yes. Send the current pump model and nameplate data along with the duty conditions and PCT will look for a drop in or close match, including ANSI dimension canned motor pumps.

Does PCT package pumps into skids?

Yes. PCT supplies pump skid packages that combine pumps, metering, piping, valves and controls.
